Who We Are
Fred Thun
Founder & CEO
Fred spent his formative years on a mixed farm with milk and beef cows, pigs, chickens and geese near Kerrobert, Saskatchewan. He developed a passion for agriculture and a knack for business. Currently Fred is the President & CEO of a large agricultural co-operative in western Canada in addition to his role as the co-founder of Little Tree Ranch. His passion for sustainable, generational agriculture led him to establish Little Tree Ranch and he is proud to see every member of the Thun family contributing as the ranch is built.
Tanya Thun
Founder & CEO (of the CEO)
Tanya grew up on one of New Brunswick's first Certified Organic produce farms. Times were tough and creativity was the only way to find success. Through years of hard work she built a vision for a ranch that could simultaneously be a safe haven for for all types of wildlife while being an economically viable operation. Her vision and standard for excellence has already transformed Little Tree Ranch into an elegant and unmatchable venue and her work with the animals and land illustrates her commitment to doing everything with excellence.
Andrew and Haley
Thun
Ranch Manager
Despite being raised in the city, Andrew grew up with a passion for agriculture and shaped his education and career path around agricultural pursuits. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Agribusiness, Andrew now leverages his education and many years of diverse experience across multiple agricultural businesses to grow Little Tree Ranch and manage ranch operations on a daily basis. Andrew and his wife, Haley, live in the river house on the ranch with their young son, Henry and Andrew looks forward to providing his family a future in agriculture in one of the world's most beautiful valleys on the Kootenay River surrounded by wildlife, mountains and adventures in the outdoors.
Meg and Josh
Alvarez
Meg is Fred & Tanya's daughter and enjoys spending time and helping out at Little Tree Ranch with her husband, Josh. Meg and Josh were married at Little Tree Ranch in 2024 in the ranch's first venue event. Meg is a social media and documentary consultant and is building Little Tree Ranch's social media presence as the ranch grows. Josh works in information technology and cyber security. Additionally, he is a weight lifting aficionado and his strength is utilized every time he is at the ranch.

Matthew Thun
Matthew is Fred & Tanya's youngest son. He is a student at Mount Royal University and simultaneously building a career in hockey operations. Hockey commitments and schedules often keep him away from the ranch through the winter until the season ends. During summers, Matt enjoys working with the highlands, helping out at the ranch and getting on a chain saw or whipper snipper to maintain fences and keep the ranch operating.
